What we’re lookin’ at…

This is copied directly from weather. com.  It is proof positive that Winter hates Kalamazoo, and quite possibly my plans of having a New Year’s day party.  For your convenience, I’ve highlighted the particularly hilarious parts in bold.  Word.

OTTAWA-KALAMAZOO- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF…JENISON… KALAMAZOO 1038 AM EST TUE JAN 1 2008

…LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST WEDNESDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAND RAPIDS HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST WEDNESDAY.

LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS ARE BECOMING MORE WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE AREA AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT. LOCAL SNOW BANDS WILL PRODUCE MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES. 1 TO 2 INCH PER HOUR SNOW RATES ARE EXPECTED IN THE HEAVIER BANDS. VISIBILITIES WILL DROP DOWN TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES.

ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS OF GREATER THAN 8 INCHES OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED THROUGH TONIGHT.

A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF LAKE- EFFECT SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TYPICALLY ALIGN THEMSELVES IN BANDS AND WILL LIKELY BE INTENSE ENOUGH TO DROP 1 TO SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW PER HOUR FOR SEVERAL HOURS. VISIBILITIES VARY GREATLY AND CAN DROP TO ZERO WITHIN MINUTES. TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL…KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT… FOOD…AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

Yeah.  I’ve got a pot of chili on, we stocked up on booze for the party, and I’m currently trying to convince our friends to walk over.  It’s really only around the corner, so hopefully I can persuade them.  If not, oh well.  The snow sure is pretty 🙂
